qiurong li pursured her ph.d. degree in nutrition and food hygiene at harbin medical university from 1994 to 1997. she conducted her post-doctoral training in molecular and cell biology at the institute of applied ecology, chinese academy of sciences from 1997 to 1999, and then at the rheinisch-westfalische technische hochschule aachen from 1999 to 2001). in 2003, she started her research on the intestinal barrier and gut-derived infection at the research institute of general surgery, jinling hospital. currently, she is a professor of surgery at jinling hospital, affiliated hospital of the medical school, nanjing university. prof. li has been awarded the first prize in 2009 and the second prize in 2016 of the natural science award by the ministry of education of china.
